Are you thinking of treating yourself to a motorbike? There are many people who, with the pandemic, have realised the comfort of riding on two wheels. But as you can imagine not all bikes are in perfect condition, from Marbesol Bike we want to tell you what to check before buying a second hand bike.
It is essential if you buy a bike from a private individual to check its condition before signing any agreement. In this post we are going to tell you the most important aspects to take into account before buying your new vehicle.
Basic tips before you start looking for your second-hand or used motorbike
You can imagine that it is essential to have a pre-defined budget. We tell you this because in many occasions we start to look and get excited about some motorbikes on the market, but many times they are not within our reach.
Defining our budget can save us hours of searching.
Another tip is to know what kind of bike you need, it is not the same a small bike to move around the city and go to work than a bike to make routes on the road and discover different places. Having an idea can help you find your bike faster.
The third recommendation is to never buy the first bike you like, look around because there are always more offers and possibilities. We don’t mean that the first bike you see is not the right one, but that you compare prices, condition, details, etc.
And finally, we recommend that you choose the bike you like and need. If you have someone you know who can give you advice and tell you what to look for before choosing your bike, it can help you a lot. If you don’t know anyone, we recommend that you visit a garage or take the bike you are thinking of buying so that they can examine it. This way you can avoid a lot of scams.
What do you need to check before buying a second-hand motorbike?
As with second-hand or used vehicles, before buying a motorbike with these characteristics, we must take into account many details that at first glance may go unnoticed. For example, before buying your new motorbike, it is advisable to ride it. This seems simple, but it can give you the feeling of riding it, if you are comfortable on its two wheels and if it needs any adjustments.
Things to check before buying a used motorbike:
1. Tyre condition and level of wear.
If they are not in good condition, the price of the bike may be negotiable if they have to be replaced with new ones.
2. Check the bike’s suspension.
Compress and release them several times to check their condition. This should also be done with the brakes and clutch of the moped.
3. Bumps, dents and wear and tear.
If the bike has been involved in an accident or has suffered a blow, you should be aware of this, as sometimes it may not be in perfect condition, even if it has been to a workshop.
4. Rusty areas or corrosion.
These details can indicate whether or not the previous owner has taken care of the bike.
5. Request a report on the condition of the vehicle from the Dirección General de Tráfico.
Haven’t you heard of it? Yes, it is possible to request information about a vehicle before purchasing it and, moreover, it is highly recommended. This way we can know if it is free of fines, that it is not a stolen motorbike or if it has had any problems during the ITV.
As you can see, these are simple actions to take, but they can save you a lot of trouble in the future. We always advise you to buy your bike with guarantees and if possible avoid private individuals.
